Our History

A Tradition of Excellence Since 1964

Wingert-Jones Publications was established in 1964 to showcase Emperata Overture, the newest composition of a then unknown composer from Nebraska, Claude T. Smith. For the next 25 years, Wingert-Jones featured Smith's compositions, including many commissions by Washington, D.C. military bands. Smith became recognized as one of America's leading composers of music for bands, and Wingert-Jones earned the reputation as a leading publisher of band music.

The list of Wingert-Jones' composers and arrangers has grown throughout the years to include well known names such as John R. Bourgeois, Daniel Bukvich, James Barnes, Robert E. Foster, Barry Kopetz, Roland Barret, David Gorham, Warren Barker, Robert Jager, David Holsinger, Nancy H. Seward, Elliot Del Borgo, Jared Spears, Roger Cichy, and Larry MacTaggart.

In 1990 Wingert-Jones introduced the Achievement Series for Young Bands. Featuring talented composers and an emphasis on the National Standards for Arts Education, this series, which is released annually, continues to be well received throughout the educational community. This series also offers worksheets and lesson guides to help with daily lesson planning.

1992 was the year Wingert-Jones introduced the Orchestra Series. With composers such as Kathy Fishburn, Marcus Dowty, and Jeffrey Bishop, Wingert-Jones produces exciting new repertoire each year for the educational string orchestra. Wingert-Jones also offers full orchestra compositions from Claude T. Smith and others!

In 1995 the development of The Bourgeois Editions allowed for presenting the personal editions of Col. John R. Bourgeois, the former leader of The United States Marine Band. This series now includes 22 authentic editions of Sousa marches and other masterworks for concert band.

Wingert-Jones newest educational resource is the Early Achievement Series. This series is for the first year student. The music is interesting and exciting for the student while offering the instructor a balanced composition from which to teach.

Commitment to excellence in instrumental publications has been at the heart of Wingert-Jones Publications for over 40 years. New composers and quality literature for bands performing at all levels are introduced each year, giving discerning band directors an excellent selection of repertoire for their bands.

Early Achievement Series
New this year, the Early Achievement Series has been developed with the beginning band musician in mind. The music is interesting and exciting for the student while offering the instructor a balanced composition from which to teach.

Achievement Series
Our Achievement Series offers a variety of works skillfully crafted for young bands. Every Achievement Series score features valuable learning objectives effective in supporting the National Standards for Arts Education.

Achievement Plus Series
Our Achievement Plus series presents an exciting new dimension in music for young bands, offering a wealth of material with both performance and education in mind. Composers such as Robert E. Foster, David Gorham and Gary Gilroy provide developing bands and bands with limited instrumentation, music to guarantee success.

Concert Band Series
Our Concert Band series provides quality literature for more experienced bands. Our list of composers reads as a veritable "who's who" of the concert band repertoire, including Claude T. Smith, Col. John Bourgeois, Daniel Bukvich, Samuel Hazo and James Barnes.

Bourgeois Editions
Wingert-Jones established The Bourgeois Editions series in order to present the editions of Col. John R. Bourgeois, former director of "The President's Own" U. S. Marine Band. Each work has been meticulously edited from early versions and made accessible to today's bands, for the enjoyment of musicians and audiences throughout the world.
