A festive Christmas concert opener or closer, this handsome collection features fragments of Joy to the World; Jolly Old Saint Nicholas and O Come All Ye Faithful for a grand introduction. Good Christian Men, Rejoice follows next in a light march style before moving on to the lyric All Through the Night featuring glistening percussion effects. Written in 1779 after his return from Paris, Mozart’s lively Symphony No. 32 loosely follows the form of an Italian overture. Cleverly arranged here without the slow Andante section, this energetic work offers students an authentic, playable experience with a great piece of Classical repertoire.


Mozart's Symphony No. 17 was composed in 1772 when he was just 16 years old. Originally for oboes, horns and strings, this string orchestra arrangement of the first movement has maintained the composition's original spirit while making it more approachable for students. It's a wonderful piece for teachers who are working on Classical style and technique.

In this brilliant Allegro, Handel introduces listeners to the energy and excitement surrounding the title character of his 1738 opera Serse (Xerxes), the king of Persia. This arrangement is transposed to D major and provides excellent opportunities for young string players to explore basic Baroque bowing styles within a simple imitative texture where motivic material is distributed evenly among all sections. Includes Viola parts in treble clef, and Violin 2 parts in alto clef for flexible ensembles.

This original fiddle tune evokes epic winter vistas of majestic snowy mountain peaks beneath vast blue skies. The Irish-flavored melody weaves energetic rhythms, power chords, and interesting harmonies through every section of the orchestra. The vibrant dance moves through major and minor, ascending and descending to depict the sparkling magic of a hidden alpine paradise.

Composed for a champion of contemporary music, Lynn Klock, this soloistic piece is relatively brief, but captures the best qualities of the alto saxophone and the artist. Technical passages add vigor and excitement to a driving piano accompaniment, and soaring melodies give the instrument a chance to sing in the upper register.
