Donald J. Young

Donald J. Young received his B.M. from the University of Wisconsin at Madison and his M.M. from Arizona State University at Tempe where he studied composition with award winning composer Ronald LoPresti. Mr. Young's composition Kroyer Variations was listed as a basic repertory piece for clarinet choirs by Norman Heim in the Instrumentalist magazine. His music has been published with over a dozen companies. He has received commissions from various organizations, most notably from the Minneapolis Civic Orchestra. His band composition CROWN OF LAUREL, published by Daehn Music Publishers, was performed at the 1990 Midwest Band Clinic in Chicago. A recording is available on compact disc from Mark Records.

He has won awards from the College Band Directors National Association (Patmos recorded on Crest Records), The Racine Arts Council, the Wisconsin Music Teachers Association, and the Wisconsin Alliance For Composers. In 2014, he was one of 6 composers to win a monetary award to write a piano solo (Three Root River Scenes) which was recorded and released by Ravello Records. Digital downloads can be purchased from Amazon and Ravello. His composition A DIVINCI PORTRAIT made the final round of the international A4 Brass Quartet composition contest in 2019.
